The John G. New Audubon Day Camp 2009 - An Adventure in Nature

Each summer, DOAS offers a one-week summer day camp to children who will be entering grades 3-6 in the fall. The camp, located at the DOAS Sanctuary on Franklin Mountain (see some photographs), will run August 10-13, 2009.

DOAS camp provides hands-on field experiences in natural science and environmental education. Through field investigation, crafts and games the campers explore a variety of habitats and learn about creatures that live there.

Registration forms and payment must be received by July 20, 2009. Due to limited space availability, registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

More information is available on the following forms: Camp information, Camp health and safety and Camp emergency, and you may also call (607) 988-7805.

Environmental Education Grants

Each Spring semester, Environmental Education Grants are awarded to classroom teachers in the DOAS area (Delaware, Otsego, eastern Chenango, and western Schoharie Counties) to enable them to add new environmental education activities to the curriculum. Audubon Adventures 2009-10

Each year, DOAS and the Oneonta Federated Garden Club sponsor Audubon Adventures in local Elementary school classrooms.

The Audubon Adventures classroom kits for 2009-10 are: At Home in a Habitat, Caretaking Our World's Water, and Power From Our Planet .

This acclaimed classroom kit helps 3rd through 5th graders form positive attitudes about nature. Each kit includes a copy of our new how-to guide "Nature Journaling for Everyone". This guide provides helpful information, advice, and techniques for starting and keeping a Naturalist's Journal. Also, our 48-page Classroom Resource Manual helps an educator provide in depth instruction on the topics and includes action components to use inside and outside the classroom.
