NY Young Birders Club — A Most Worthy Cause

DOAS is now a partner organization of the NY Young Birders Club, a special project of the NY State Ornithological Assocation. This club is for birders in New York State between the ages of 12 and 19, inclusive. Club activities include field trips, annual meetings and other events. In addition, youth members communicate via the YBC website, a newsletter, and an online discussion group. Adult volunteers will guide and mentor the youth members of the club, provide transportation, and handle the many administrative tasks required to make the club a success and maximize the value of the club to its young members while giving their safety top priority at all times. Adults who wish to support the club may join as Supporting Adult members. In addition to financial support, our Chapter’s partnership with the YBC includes DOAS organizing a field trip for the group to the Franklin Mt. Hawkwatch in November.

Since its founding last fall, the Young Birders Club has grown, with 16 Youth Members, 15 Supporting Adults, and 16 Partner Organizations now on board. The NY Young Birders club is seeking members in all three of its categories: Youth (ages 12-19), Supporting Adult, and Partner Organization. If you know of a young birder looking for opportunities to connect with others, please let them know about the YBC. More details and application forms are available online.
